David Kelk

1764- ??

end

David Kelk aged 29 having served 4 years in the 7th Foot Regiment Royal Fusiliers(1788-92).

His discharge papers are dated July 31st 1792.

"having been afflicted with a Scrotal Rupture ever since January 1790, occasioned by a violent fall received when going round with the Relief in the night time at Glasgow is hereby rendered unfit for further service, and being deemed by on Hospital Board is hereby discharged...."

Marriage of David Kelk to Elizabeth Baston

July 29th 1793

David married Alice Hill on May 29th 1787. She died shortly afterwards. Perhaps this is why David joined the army in 1788.

David's ruptured scrotum must have healed... they had three children

Edward 1794

John 1795

William 1799

If David's first wife Alice Hill had not died... and if his fall in Glasgow resulting in his ruptured scrotum was more traumatic... my great, great, great, grandfather Edward would never have been conceived....
